So I've never shot full frame and noticed these 5D classics been cheap lately and wouldn't mind snagging a full frame. But with new APSC sensor, would it still be worth it from shooting with my 7DM2? Still keeping the 7d but I mean, a full frame is a full frame right? Thoughts?

IF you want to shoot landscapes, or shoot with very shallow dof, then yes, absolutely a FF is worth it.

I have a 7D2 and 5D3, and use them both depending on the job. while I do like the higher iso files of the 5D3, I wasn't blown away at any difference when in the lower iso range.. just very interesting how the same lens behaved differently, and how my expectation for results needed to change on which camera I chose.

Shooting at f2 is fun on a full frame, but it depends on your needs and subjects you shoot on if you will see a benefit or not. Might want to rent a FF first for a week, and see how you get along.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

i would use it for landscapes and family photos when i travel. the 7d has been great for when i take it race tracks and other sports. but i want to know, if anyone who used both 7dm2 and 5d classic, would i notice much of a difference? How much of a difference is there between the 5dc and mark iii or even ii? IF i could afford a 1dx mark ii Id get it now for the full frame and high fps but im still thinking about dipping my toe into the full frame world early

The 5D sensor is still amazing. That said the controls are basic and it's missing lots of the bells and whistles that your other camera has. No internal flash control menu, slow sync speed, simple focus system. It's still a great portrait and landscape body in you are the type to control your own variables

For the price, it is good to start with, at least you will know if you want to upgrade to something else like a 6D perhaps, or a 5D3/4, later if you like your results. Personally, I would save up a bit more and shoot for a 6D, it is much better at many things over the 5D.

If you want to compliment your current line up, get a used 6D.

If you want a full frame beater for fun, get the 5Dc.

Realistically there's nothing the 5Dc is better at than the 7D2. It's just a different FOV with focal lengths and a very simple camera.

Very best,

I just pointed up for a new 5d3 to have in my bag along with my 7d2. It's like I just bought a bunch of new lenses...

DOF with the 5d3 is noticeably different at the same equivalent focal distance.

I have not done any same shot ISO noise related testing yet, thinking about doing that tonight. I am figuring the 5d3 will win here.

The 7d2 though kills on speed for action both in frame per second and AF seems faster and more reliable.

The reach is also nice.

I can see how both are usefully depending on subject matter.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll just hold off on the 5Dc then since it doesn't seem like much of an addition to what I already have.

I don't know about the 5Dc, but a 5DII would be worth using along side the 7DII. It would definitely be nicer for landscapes and portraits as well as low-light.

But yes, at the current prices, I would guess a used 6D would be the better value for money option, with a sensor a decent step up from a 5DII.

I did a test for low light noise 7d2 vs 5d3 last night. The 5d3 did show 1+ stop less noise. I only shot in full stops.

I shot my 24-105 L and adjusted zoom 70mm on the 5d3 and got as close to 43-44mm with the 7d2. I set Fstop to f/9 and kept both cameras on the same iso/shutter speed.

5d3 at 3200 ISO looked slightly better than the 7d2 at 1600.
5d3 at 6400 ISO was worse than the 7d2 at 1600.

I am guessing 5d3 at ISO 4000 would be a tie with the 7d2 at 1600.

The other thing others have mention is color saturation being better with the full frame. I was happy with the 7d2, but I see what others were talking about. I kept both cameras at 5000 Kelvin (lighting I have in my living room) and the 5d3 definitely had deeper saturation.

With a 5Dc the colors pop more than with a APS-S sensor. You'll notice more variations in color and tone, the photo won't feel as flat. I definitely notice a difference compared to a 70D and a 1100d (T3). And when viewed at 100 % you 'll get much more detail. And after resizing the image still looks a bit sharper because of those little variations of color and tone that those bigger pixels of the 5Dc are able to catch.
Besides having ISO50 is very handy for long exposures and you get a lot of latitude for raising shadows compared to a 7D.
However notice than there isn't Liveview which can be annoying when shooting from a tripod and the LCD screen is quite terrible, has a green cast and it's low resolution.

1) I don't see how you are raising shadows from a 5Dc better than 7D2, that was one of the 5Dc major issues. If you have differing results, please post them for discussion.

2) You are not cropping out a 1.6 FOV from the 5Dc (5Mpx result) and resizing it 4x to 20MPx to get a better result.

3) The 70D and T3 are a bit behind the 7D2, but despite that, I would like to see #2 with what you have. Perhaps I did my own reviews incorrectly?

4) The 7D2 is better than the 70D and T3, both in ISO handling and shadow noise.

We bought our son a 5D (now C) not long after it first came out. It motivated him to get a job as a photography assistant in the greater NYC area. He learned a lot and some of the photographs he took with that camera are printed and hanging on our walls. It was a great camera, at the time.

So.. a few months ago, I picked one up for $300 with a lot of extras (batteries, charger etc.) I was able to find a used RRS L bracket for cheap as well.

Is it better than the 70D I "loaned" to my wife? I don't know. I do know, I've used it for a few photographs of my wife and they came out very nice. It has its limitations of course, ISO being one of them and it's only 12 megapixels, but in the right light, with the right genre.... a good lens, it's pretty cool.

I just put my 16-35 on it... and compared the FOV to using it on the 1D IV.... takes a few minutes to adjust. It's the widest lens I've ever had in my hands... sort of cool to be able get the lawn in the foreground and the tops of 100' tall pines at the top.

Anyway, we all know the 6D has fewer limitations and is an amazing camera at today's prices. I bought my 5Dc back before the 6D Mark ll came out so the prices for used 6D's were still up there pretty high. Team Speed is probably right... save a bit more and pick up a gently used 6D. From what I've read, you can almost shoot in the dark. ;)

7DM2 + 5DC = ?

You know, I was never very good at algebra.

4) The 7D2 is better than the 70D and T3, both in ISO handling and shadow noise.

1) I already posted results of the 5Dc at ISO50. See my review. The capabilities of raising shadows at ISO50, compared to a 70D or a 1100d at ISO100 is quite big. I don't know about the 7dmk2 but the result shouldn't be that much different compared to a 70D. The 5Dc is very interesting just for having ISO50. But yeah raising shadow at higher ISO's with the 5D is not that great, yeah...

2) ..? Take 2 identical photos, one with a 70D and another with a 5Dc. Resize both to 3 Mpx. To me, the 5Dc photo still looks a bit sharper.
