So fired up my moth trap last night; rather end of the season and it was in a shaded spot so not a huge haul but got a few that I was pleased with. Still got to work on proper identification, but here's a few that appeared. Anyone with any hints/ideas/Id's would be most welcome.

The white lid of the trap also makes an ideal little stand to work from. As always any comments/critiques are most welcome.
All taken on a Canon 7D with Sigma 70mm macro at 1/250sec, f13, ISO 100

A shield bug, another not-a-moth thing that was in the trap.

Many thanks LordV!

Another day another moth trap*! Got a few more this time
I'm honestly thinking of getting a ringflash for this kind of work; or even trying to get something setup to hold a flash either side (I'd use my twinflash but the heads on that are not diffused as easily, but I might give it a try)

As always any comments/critiques are most welcome!

*I should point out that I set it up in a totally different location to the first day. Same general site but different area and probably won't set it up again for a while - don't want to stress the moths out every night!

Great series. There are so many wonderful moths never normally seen. Been thinking of getting a moth trap myself.

Thanks Lester - I've used a Heath Moth trap; one of the easy to assemble portable ones
https://www.angleps.com/mothtraps.php (external link)

The one I use is the 15Watt trap further down the page. Its easy to setup and quick to use. I tend to leave it out at night and come to read what's inside in the morning, just fill the base with egg trays and the moths hide up inside. There are other traps that have better catch rates (or more retaining rates) and some others work best when used at night whilst you're there. You can even just setup a white sheet with a light shining onto it if you're out at the same time.
