I have the Canon 7D and after shooting for about 5 years I'm feeling a full frame would be nice to have. I am thinking of purchasing a used one if I can find one. Any comments opinions ?

The 5D2 or 6D would be great FF bodies to add to a 7D for a hobbyist. You won't have too much into it, and both have advantages over the original 5D. The 6D is a bit more future-friendly though.

My review of the 7D vs 5D2: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=948879

It's decent.

But I will point out that everything you're purchasing in a 5D2 is basically the sensor and nothing else. The AF system of the 5D2 is the same as the original 5D classic. So you're moving back several tiers worth of tech in AF. The 5D2 is basically a sluggish center-point AF system without any real way to tweak it; the outer points only work in very good light with lots of contrast, still not a safe bet unless you're shooting full depth of field. Granted, for studio purposes, it's just as good as any other modern camera. And it's still just fine for landscape and other wide full depth of field work. I think you'll find it too long in the tooth when it comes to thin depth of field outdoor work with moving subjects, where the AF gets stressed.

Personally I would go for the 6D instead. The price difference is minimal. The 6D is simply better at most everything with a much better AF system that is more sensitive (down to -3EV) so it really is more useful in situations where the older tech lags.

That said, either sensor would be much, much cleaner than the 7D's sensor.

Depends on what you need from a full frame and your uses?

Very best,
