Looks like they've been around for a while, and do a high volume. I'm looking at their sale of grey market Canon 5d IV. I've asked them a couple times via message if their camera includes the OEM Canon battery as a few yeras ago I bought a grey market 5dIII from some vendor and I think I was given a grey market battery. 6th Ave has yet to respond which I guess answers a few questions...

Check out CanonPriceWatch.com for the 5d4 and answer the question, "What price is my peace of mind?" :-)

CC always welcome.

Thanks. The more financially stable I get the less tolerance I have for risk, poor customer service, as well as poor communication skills.

If is on Ebay, you are protected but with plenty of headaches if things do go wrong. I think there are plenty of of more legit sellers on Ebay. I have more confidences shopping from Hong Kong sellers than many of the shady dealers in the US, usually in NYC or NJ unfortunately....heheheheh....

Why don;t you give "Greentoe" a shot at a reasonable price. See http://www.greentoe.com …__1483C002?keyword=canon+ (external link)

Someone a few weeks back got the 5DIV for $3039 and was pleased. See the thread at https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18394779.

I purchased a grey market 5D III from them on eBay. Came in the original box and all sealed genuine Canon accessories (strap, charger, battery, etc.) The major downside, like you already mentioned, is that their communication is absolutely horrible. Their shipping was also somewhat slow.

Got a 5DIII from them a couple of years back. I'm really easy-going and don't usually call people out on stuff on the internet, but I was a bit angry when it showed up. They took a long time to ship even though they claimed it was already shipped out by printing the UPS label, wouldn't respond to emails, sent the thing in horrible packaging, was missing the manual (grey market so im assuming another language maybe so they removed it?) and to top it off, there were pistachio shells inside of the shipping box alongside the camera box when I opened it. Couldn't believe it! Definitely won't be ordering from them again. Camera worked fine though so that was cool...

James,
Great question. Grey market does not equal black market. Its a genuine Canon camera. The difference is that it was set up for sale in another country, usually Japan. So be prepared to take the menu out of Japanese and into English (there's a ewwtube video for it somewhere).

Why all the fuss? Exchange rates. Some dude can start a small business buying a large backpack full of these in another country, and sell them in another country with a favorable exchange rate. Even buying their inventory at retail in the foreign country if the exchange rates are favorable enough.

The challenge? Other than changing the menu? Warranty coverage. The term 'authorized retailer.' Yeah, you ain't buying from one with grey market. That means no warranty coverage... if they don't want to. I've heard that Canon may do some repair but obviously they don't have to. Nikon sounds like they're more strict about this. For me the math is easy: I'm saving about 33% off retail for a new camera, that's highly unlikely to have a problem, especially with a two year track record of no prior recalls. I sure as heck wouldn't buy a Nikon D750 grey market. They've had what? three recalls now? Nice benefit of shooting Canon!

I think this is a relatively rare type of event when dealing with US retailers dealing in grey market products. I did have it happen to me once with a purchase made in Singapore. I realized it back at the hotel, returned to the store, and they were apologetic and gave me a different camera.

Canon's "official" comment about their grey market can be found at https://www.usa.canon.com …oducts/groups/gray-market (external link).
