Pentax 20D and Canon EOS DSLR

I have owned a Pentax 20D camera for several years and only recently starting using the Continuous Burst mode of 20 FPS at 1.6 mgpixels. The results a little rough do produce unique sports photos of action that cannot be achieved unless lucky on Canon 550D at 3.7 FPS. E.g. a player kicking a football, photo 1 ball prior to boot contact, photo 2 ball on boot, photo 3 ball left boot on transit. My question is, can the Canon 550D produce these types of photos in perhaps movie mode, the format is MOV?

is there are reason you are choosing the 550D for you comparison instead of another canon body?

I have a Canon 550D as well and 2 Sigma 150-500mm EF and PK mounts and it is either or when photographing. But due to weight issues I only take one camera on the day unless I can park my car near to where I am shooting.
