So yeah, I'm a bit weird and sill look at ACDSee every now and then.
It was the very first "graphics" app I ever installed after "paint" in Windows 3.1

I got used to it for browsing, viewing, batch renaming. It's remained off and on part of my toolkit the whole time.

ACDsee was never my "editor" for anything having to do with my digital photos,. but I used it alongside PS since Photoshop 4 for lots of other more mundane tasks.

In the pre-Lightroom era, asset management was not built into our editors,. so ACDsee was it.

It's major advantages are SPEED, speed and speed, multiple views, management with folders, many different kinds of preview/thumbnail/filmstrip options, dual monitor support,. heck back with version 3 I could set the thumbnail size to anything I want. that was unheard of in the Win95 era.

I have been using Ultimate 10 now since the 5D4 forced an update on me, and I have to say, this management system is amazing. Add to that the fact that it's editing tools are becoming more and more useful.

My only problem is the editing and RAW or "Develop" module. RAW is Relatively new for ACDsee and it simply is not up to the task as compared to C1 etc,.
ACDSee has always been fast at everything but oddly with the large files we get from modern DSLR, ACDsee really bogs down in edit/develop mode.

BUT it is very handy to have a SINGLE app that can do a little bit of everything in a lean install vs. having to load up everything that is on my workstation on my laptop or work PC as well.

It's cataloging database is quite robust. I bet a lot of what is under the hood in programs like LR came from little apps like ACDSee over the years.

Anyway, I just keep enjoying this app, and thought I'd mention it.

I have the Mac beta. It only does basic global edits. No tools for cloning/stamping, no graduated filters...etc. It is definitely anything like Ultimate 10. I have to wonder why they have needed so much time to do it. They will not be winning marketshare with this compared to On1 Photo RAW or other Adobe competitors.

Glad the Windows products are looking good.

Yeah, I won't use it at all for raw processing. But I do like the management tools,.

EG: It turns out the whole time I was in Botswana, I had forgotten to set any of my cameras to local time, and worse, I hadn't synchronized them.

When I look at folder (organized by location/day) I want to be able to sort all the photos regardless of which camera took them in chronological order. And I'd like dusk to read as 6:30pm, not midnight. It turns out one of my cameras was off by an hour due to DST, and another was out of sync by about 12 minutes (?) and of course all were off by 6 hours timezone.

With ACDSee in management mode, editing the exif for the time stamp was a breeze. Once I nailed down the exact time they were different from each other, I could select all 7D2 files and change by 6 hours, 5D4 by 5 hours 12 minutes etc..

And it was FAST.

Great to hear of good tools.

With our Olympus bodies we synch them via wifi to an app running on the iPhone to get accurate local date and time before shooting. But them we turn wifi off on the bodies to not waste battery life.

Have not yet been to Botswana. There must be good shooting opportunities in Moremi, and on the Chobe river. We are planning to head back to the Mara for a few weeks. It remains one of our favorite destinations.

I just started using this program a few weeks ago. It is fast for sure. I use it to weed through my photos and sort out the keepers.

I have been using ACDSee for YEARS, but I have only ever used it to view my photos, nothing else.

Perhaps I should change my ways....

Right now I have ACDSee Pro 5 and ACDSee Pro 9, but I like the "looks' of 5 better than 9.

I still would not recommend it for raw processing, but for quick edits, and batch edits of all kinds, it is really great. Yeah I had this going back to Windows 3.1!

Just downloaded acdsee about a week ago to give it a try as replacement for Lightroom. Tried c1 and really like the program but $$$ is keeping me from making the move at this point. Management in a acdsee is great. However, it did lock up on me a few times in develop mode.

I believe I used it back in Win 3.1 as well.

I used to have a file that I kept of ALL the ACDSee products I used, but I must have erased it cuz i can't find it anymore.

Sure wish I still had that file!

I, too, started with ACDC on Win 3.1. I have placed it in the back of my toolbox and now use FastStone Image Viewer as it reads my RAW files very quickly.

I just did a search of my financial software (Quicken) and found i first bought ACDSee 3.0 back on Dec. 14, 1999

I then upgraded to 4.0, then 5.0, 7.0 etc. to what I have now.

Now I am again a "Happy Camper"! ;-)a

But in reality I do NOT do Any CAMPING!

I actually still have a working one, and no kidding I have ACDss 3.0 on one of the disks!

Some other old goodies on ZiP disk,

- GL Quake patch
- Monster/Voodoo 3D driver
- EZCD Creator
- Matrox drivers :) :) :)
- Photoshop 4 MMX patch (allowed PS to work with multicore/multiprocessors for the first time)
- Netscape Navigator :)

...and most importantly, the mpeg with the chimp sniffing his own but and fainting.
