Canon 24mm zoom lenses

One benefit of me being less picky: I am happy with my Canon gear. ߘ

they could come out with a 24-70f2.8 IS, and not have it be a replacement for the 24-70II...it could be like when they had the 70-200f2.8 IS and non IS...either way, i doubt they're waiting 10 years to bring out an IS version of that lens...that'd be nuts

I haven't used any of Canon's current top of the line camera bodies. I got into birding in 2010 and ended up buying several bird photography books. Almost all of the ones I purchased (and read, btw) had photos taken with the 1D IV. At the time, that camera body was out of reach for me.

After some trial and error, I ended up buying a 1D IV. Overall, I'm quite happy with its performance. I realize it is now two generations behind Canon's best, but it gets the colors right and if I do my job, everything is perfectly in focus.

So while I know different people are leaving Canon for this or that reason, I've been content with the results I get when I put in the effort. I don't have any demanding customers, just me. At this point, based on my limited knowledge of other camera platforms, I don't think I'd do any better with any other manufacturer... not without spending a small fortune. If that was my goal, Canon's big whites could easily fulfill that dream.

Time goes by fast... it won't be long before I can afford to buy a 1D X Mark 2..... and/or a 5D IV. Camera bodies lose their value far too quickly.

Right, so even assuming you're correct that it's easy to add, Canon stands to make piles of money by releasing an IS version. How do they make more money by only selling the now-several-years-old non-IS version? Releasing an IS would sell buckets of new lenses at full retail, for $2k or more for at least the first few months. They're not doing that. Why?

Well, I see it from a different perspective.
What I see is that Canon is doing their best to keep us slave to the system (literally) and give us the minimum benefits for their maximum revenue. In that sense, Canon is making us miserable, but they throw us a carrot at the very last moment before we are desperate enough to dare the switch.
I can't stand that, so I am giving my money to companies who are taking a risk to innovate.

Finally, after so many years of crappy sensors and lack of innovations, they finally came out with the 5D4 which is still lagging 3 years behind Sony technology. No IBIS, so they can leech your blood for IS lenses. And the funny thing is that some of them are not even available (where's the 24-70/2.8 IS ?).

The Sony lenses are, if anything, more expensive.

Because they know a lot of people still need to upgrade from the v1 to the v2.
When most of them have, then they will release the IS version, so people will need to upgrade again.

Some Sony lenses are more expensive than their Canon equivalents.
That includes the 85/1.8, for example, which is vastly superior. And let's not even mention the fiftish.
