XE3 Announced, 8-16 2.8 & 200/2 Announced

Lots of updated info there.

Already pre-ordered my X-E3. Been waiting for this thing for a year now. Most likely if I swap to full Fuji it will be because of the 8-16 and 200/2. I'll finally have a long sports glass option for fuji. I would need both TC's and would also need to see how the AF handles that 200/2 w/ the TC's.

Here is a mockup of the lenses. That 200 looks NICE!!! Watch it cost the same as the darn canon 200/2 though.

8-16 is pretty darn big as well.... really big. like 15-30 tamron big. I can reference it to the 56 1.2 in the background.... yikes.

Ya... I have high expectations for that lens. I figure I have about another solid year with canon before I make a full swap.

that might give Sony some time to release some glass to change my mind.

Keeping my 6D/135/70-200 f4 for at least another year. Now sad I sold my 35 f2. Not ready to ditch Canon completely. Still holding out hope for a FF mirrorless that uses EF glass.

Canon has got to see that is the next big move. Release a FF mirrorless and have an adapter just like the M series for the EF glass. Then release some nice 1.8 primes and F4 zooms to keep the size small and there ya go.

They have ALL of the tech ready... their dual pixel works very good and is mirrorless ready. Their facial recognition is pretty good... maybe not sony good but a heck of a lot better than Fuji on that department.

If Canon did release a FF mirrorless then I'd keep my entire canon kit and never swap. They already have a 40mm 2.8 pancake... they know how to make some small glass... they just need to do it. I'd take a FF Canon mirrorless in a heartbeat... just tired of waiting.

Why don't you take a look at the new EOSM6 . Look at the size of the mount on the camera. Looks like canon is already prepping to make provisions for EF glass and to throw in a full frame sensor.

For me I'll be using Canon and Fuji. Once Canon implements mirror less I'll also be shooting that too.

The fact that we know that physics will never allow us to have full frame class in tiny physical dimensions I'll wait for a canon full frame mirrorless body to mate with all of my current glass.

Also for battery longevity It will always be clunky and chunky with a battery grip. It'll be lighter but still bulky .

My guess is that a canon mirrorless full frame with a 16-35 mk3 would easily surpass Fuji crop sensor .

If you build in the adapter you loose one of the big advantages of mirrorless, size. You would basically have a rebel size body without a mirror.

I've been holding off the 10-24 as the 8-16 is more me, will be begging for one next year. Pity the X-E3 looses the popup flash, I'd welcome the bigger EVF though as well as the joystick. This and more free firmware for December - Part of why I love Fuji, constant improvement.

Canon FF mirrorless will be around the corner. The thing is the "new future FF camera" will have a massive amount of lens selection to choose from.

If I had a voice in Canon's decision I'd tell them to build a mirrorless body with dual memory cards and the 5dmk4 FF sensor in the 80D/6dmk2 body with a joystick. This will NEVER happen as the 6dmk2 exists and interfere with 5dmk4 sales. This addresses smaller form factor, single juicy battery life (unlike most mirrorless bodies), logical hand grip size for ergonomics. That would have full frame high iso capabilities with better ergonomics than Sony A7 series and Fuji. Only issues with a Canon mirrorless is loss of infrared focus assist grid with speedlight in pitch dark venues.

Unlikely Canon will go this route and will stick with the EOS M body style with full frame. With their narrow minded approach the EOS M body with full frame sensor will not be targeted for professionals. It'll be an upgrade in performance for prosumer/hobbist EOS M crop sensor users with single memory card slots and 1/4000 max shutter limitations but with E shutter capabilities. Almost certain they'd put the not so popular 6dmk2 FF sensor in it too. That's my prediction anyways.

The Fuji 10-24mm is definitely a more useful lens if you do not need 1 stop faster glass. The long end of the 10-24mm is more useful as it'd be less distorted. I'm kinda disappointed in the new 8-16mm as it would have been a tad more useful if they made it into a 8-20 f/2.8 or even better a 10-24 f/2.8. I will have to say I'm very interested in the 8-16mm but that's more of "settling" for the lens due to f/2.8.

I think there will be a tonne of fuji 60mm lenses on the used market. The new 80mm will take on both macro and portrait duties for many fuji users.

Not sure about the 200mm as many hardcore sports/wildlife shooters still gravitate to the better AF in mirrored DSLR's. Many budget minded wildlife shooters are taking advantage of the 2X crop factor micro 4/3.

That'd be such a wasted design. If it used EF glass natively there'd really be no point in making it mirrorless. If they were going to go that route they might as well go with a translucent mirror like the a99 bodies from Sony.

What would make more sense is if they made a FF MILC and included an EF adapter with the package. The EF adapter Canon already has for the M line is excellent, there's really no need for a native EF MILC. If all you want to use is EF glass, great, just stick the adapter on and pretend it's part of the body. When I had my EOS M (the original one) I used the EF 35/2 most of the time, worked great.

So... you see them developing yet another line of glass? Not gonna' happen.

I may eat my hat though... you never know.

That 8-16 is tempting but the size!

I switched to Fuji for the smaller size so I'm torn with hoe large it's going to be. But still so very tempting!!!
