From the reviews the new 55-250 STM IS lens is good.
Any other lens i should consider over the 55-250?

locally there is a 70-200L non-IS F4, but i fear i need the IS as most of the time it won't be on a tripod.

thoughts/suggestions?

thanks!

The 55-250 is a good lens, I had it for a while before going to the 70-200, which is a great lens. I did spring for the IS version, f4, glad I did as I can be a little bit lazy about getting the tripod out. I do notice quite a difference if I have the IS switched off and forget to turn it back on while hand holding, so if possible, if you do go the 70-200 route, get the IS.

(I also have the 15-85, with that lens and that camera, you should be getting some very nice photos.)

quick update:
I have the 80D now! yay
So far its a tad overwhelming, compared to the XSi - so i have alot of reading to do.

One thing i find odd is the auto ISO setting. I generally shoot in ISO auto and noticed the camera always goes to 1600 indoors, even with my 430exII mounted.
in the same conditions the XSi would go to ISO 400.

Thoughts? as i'm finding the pics a bit bright on this setting.

Thanks and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

I'd suggest setting iso manually. I you set the iso to iso 800-1600 with flash the results will still be very clean with the 80D with your 430exii flash just rid the FEC (adjust the flash output indoors while shooting). You will get very consistent results.

You'll hav great results with the 80D as it's a very good performer that is very consistent. Have fun!!!

while your at it learn to setup your "green tab" signified as a star aka favourite. Also setup you custom C1,C2 etc for a video mode so you can just turn the knob and your ready to shoot video in selected settings. Also on youtube setup so you can use your shutter button to activate the video start instead of the small designated start video button.

Have fun!!
