Never. Clean the 1Dmkiii sensor at home. It sure can get oil splattered when using 11 fps.

When you say never are you meaning never sending it to canon to get cleaned or never cleaning the camera period? Thanks everybody!

.

I clean my camera often but never send to Canon for cleaning. Wasn't your question about sending it in?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I'll be the one in this thread who does send cameras to Canon. I pay $300/year for a CPS Platinum membership. That includes 10 DSLR cleanings and Canon pays for overnight shipping both ways. Between my wife and I we have 4 cameras. All of them go in at least once a year; the 1DX2 has been in twice already this year (it gets dirty doing airshows). The CPS service is fast -- I give the camera to FedEx on Monday, and they hand it back to me on Thursday.

I have cleaned sensors myself in the past, but I like having Canon look over the whole camera.

That said, if I didn't have CPS Platinum, I wouldn't send the body to Canon just for sensor cleaning.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I send all three of mine in to CPS once or twice a year depending on usage. I never send in lenses for cleaning.

I bought a new Toyota Rav4 about the same time I bought my 6D. I've had Canon clean my 6D about as often as I've had Toyota Motor Corporation wash my car.

Do they not do a basic valet job when you take it in for service etc? My last couple of Nissans they always gave it a quick valet when they had it in the service department.

I'm with you. If you rely on your tools to make money you try to avoid having them fail at inopportune moments, and preventative maintenance helps with that respect. I send all my critical gear in to Canon once a year and the lesser-important stuff every other year (at CPS Gold I only get 5 free CMS credits). They have found and fixed issues before I noticed the problem, such as some water corrosion inside the top plate electronics of a 70D, excessively-worn bushings/cams/whatever in my 100-400 and sticking IS mechanism in my 70-200.

In between I clean the sensors myself if needed.

It is one of the main reasons I subscribe to CPS, and CPS is of the main reasons I haven't switched brands in spite of lagging technical capabilities.

It has never happened. But I've cleaned myself.

I've gotten my 5D3 cleaned once when I had a spec of dirt get in the viewfinder. I'm the sort that gets driven crazy seeing a spec on my viewfinder or computer screen:oops::-) Had it cleaned and some older lenses with the CPS membership. Never have gotten a speck since. I also haven't found I've needed to manually clean the sensor of my current bodies (think the self cleaning mechanisms are pretty good and aren't dust magnets like my 5Dc was).

Canon 5D mk IV
EF 135mm 2.0L, EF 70-200mm 2.8L IS II, EF 24-70 2.8L II, EF 50mm 1.4, EF 100mm 2.8L Macro, EF 16-35mm 4L IS, Sigma 150-600mm C, 580EX, 600EX-RT, MeFoto Globetrotter tripod, grips, Black Rapid RS-7, CAMS plate and strap system, Lowepro Flipside 500 AW, and a few other things...

After 4 years I cleaned the 6D I had. Wet cleaning. Got tired of cloning out the spots. Wasn't difficult and boy what a difference. Never sent it to Canon.

My 50D has over 250,000 shots through it and I've never thought of sending it anywhere, I clean the sensor myself. No reason to send it in

I don't know how to clean it myself but do you think it should be cleaned with less than 5k shutter count?

Cleaning your camera has nothing to do with shutter count. You clean it if it needs cleaning.

I have my sensor cleaned twice a year, but never by Canon. I use the knowledge and experience of a local specialist.

I only get Canon to clean it when its in for a service, I had my 1DX in for a service so it was rude not to let them do it when it was in. I usually do it myself, it can be a bit daunting the first time, but after that you'll wonder why you even sent it in for a clean.
