Selling an extender

Hi again,

Sorry for this strange question and i didn't know where to post it, so i chose here, so admins or mods please move it to where it belongs.

I have an extender i offered for sale, and i found a seller, so soon i gonna sell it, but before i sell it, i want to have your opinion about it first.

The item i will sell is Canon 1.4X II extender, i already have 1.4X III one, will i miss version 2 over version 3? is there a lens or an advantage of version 2 over version 3 before i sell it? i didn't use this extender much to be honest and i can't think i may use it any soon, and with having mkIII is it really necessary to keep for some reasons?

Let me know so i can decide if i should sell it or keep it, and i hope the price i offered is good enough.

Just so you know the selling price of a II in excellent condition by KEH is $238. See https://www.keh.com …ies-tele-zoom-lenses.html. Do you have both caps and the case?

I won't sell it here, my extender is like new, into the box with full accessories even the manual, and the price i offered is much less than that from Keh, should i increase it then? difficult to tell the buyer suddenly that the price is increased or i changed my mind.

From what I have read, there is little improvement from the II to the III for the 1.4x. The 2x is a different story. If you have offered the item at a price, and somebody has accepted, then you should honor that price. It is always good to check various used sources before listing an item so that you feel you and your buyer are both involved in a reasonable deal. I wish you luck on the sale!

Despite that my extender is like new, but i bought it years ago, so maybe that will lower its price a lot, i think i bought mine around 2006-2007 period, so i don't know if the price i gave should be as that one from Keh, i offered it for about $190-200, to me i feel it is fair enough, some may say it is too much due to its age regardless its condition, and some others may differ and say that i should increase the price.

Honor your original price. KEH as a dedicated retailer of used equipment has more at stake in establishing price than you as an individual. Should you be interested you can go to the KEH website and see what they would give you for your extender. I suspect it would be a number around $150.

The item I linked to is described as Excellent + and the KEH definition appears below. I would doubt you could tell the KEH offering from new.

V2 is a little sharper in the centre. If using a crop body I'd call that an advantage. A V2 will work with some Sigmas that have been cruelly updated via Firmware to not work with Canon V3. A V3 provides advantages with newer bodies and specifically 1 very popular lens, the 100-400 II, providing more AF points

Canon claims that both the 1.4x and 2x TC versions III have been re-chipped to provide faster, more accurate autofocus. See paragraph at the bottom of page 2: http://cpn.canon-europe.com …enses/extenders​.do?page=2

I had version II of both. I did not notice a difference in AF/IQ with the 1.4X. I had some focus issues with the 2x, and IQ takes a noticeable hit. I've never used version III of either.

So i don't know if i should sell it or not then, i don't have most new lenses, still with older versions, only 70-200 is mkII i have, and i do have 1DX as newest body, maybe later one day i can sell my 100-400 and get mkII of it, but i really don't shoot anything since long time and i don't know if i will miss that v2 of this extender over v3 any day, and i feel i don't pixel peep to see which is sharper, but doesn't v3 do focus fast or same as v2 with older lenses? i didn't ask 1.4xIII to be faster with my older lenses, but at least i hope it doesn't become so bad unless it is attached to mkII of lenses, this is what i was thinking about.
