Took the RX10m4 as my main camera to Skomer Island, just off the coast of Wales. There are thousands upon thousands of puffins on the island at this time of year. The M4 coped extremely well, much better than the other dSLR's that the people I went with had. The puffins are like little speeding torpedos shooting across the sky. They then flick their wings out to quickly stall and drop to the floor. The M4 tracked them in flight extremely well. I had one batch of 65 images of one bird in flight - all sharp... :D

Anyway here are a couple of images... ;)

Excellent work Gary and at ISO 400.

Thanks Bill. Yeah the camera was screaming at me. As the puffins were flying in front of dark backgrounds it was very easy to over expose the bird. Tweaked the camera settings and was largely shooting manual or shutter priority to ensure that I got correct level of lighting. ;)

Good to hear, but why would that be?

Focusing ability largely. The M4 was able to focus and keep focus on the small puffins. There were people there with 'large white lenses' which were struggling to get a focus lock in the limited time the bird was in view or landing. There may be an element of experience as well. I had a go with one of the other chaps Canon and it was having similar problems getting focus to what I had on previous visits.

OK, thanks for the explanation!

Gary awesome Puffin work.
I shot them 12 days ago in Newfoundland....none where I was got that close but the 10iv tracked as well as the a9 and the a9 tracks as well if better than my 1DXii did so I agree with you in that the 10iv can out track basically any DSLR out there. Of course weight wise the 10iv has a huge advantage over the big whites and wielding them.

First day out with this camera - WOW! I can see why people love it! I use to have to work really hard to get great shots. Now, my hardest job is sorting through all the keepers because there are so, so many of them!

Yes! Welcome to the joy of the 10iv.
Way up north one day I shot a9, a7riii, and rx10iv one after another after another.
The 10iv not only holds its own but wins in quite a few categories.
Glad you are enjoying yours.
