Got a couple of hours this morning to try out my new RX10.

It is significantly sharper at f5.6 compared to f4 (at 600mm equiv)
I'd say f4 is good, f5.6 is very good. These are big crops (1697 and 1692 wide pixel crops), Straight out of camera.

AF is fast enough for these:

I have a Canon G1XII which also has a 1 inch sensor and results seem pretty similar.
The AF, FPS, focal range and other features of the Sony are in an entirely different class though.

Those images are looking very good. I'm kinda interested in the RX10 mk IV and you results are very positive.

Contratulations Choder. You're already reaping the rewards of the 10iv. Just amazing what all it can do.

I was surprised at the difference between f4 and f5.6. I nearly forgot to check.
I'll be checking f4.5, f5 now.
I'm not too concerned. f4 sharpens up nicely with a bit of USM.

So far an obvious change I would like is power save behaviour. I changed the default 1 minute to 2 minutes.
I'll probably just go straight to maximum.
What I would like is if it had more of a 'sleep' mode: turn off rear LCD, leave lens in whatever position it's in and only wake up with a particular button, but wake up faster than complete start up from off. Leave the current power save mode, just add sleep.

This thread really does explain the camera well, both with examples posted and the positive comments about the AF speed.
Once I have a bit more practice with stills I intend to have some fun with the video.

I also plane to do some night use (mainly Owls). Currently I have a rig with DSLR, 100-400 II lens, torch and flash.
It's big, bulky, cumbersome. So I only need a flash trigger and I can have a much lighter rig.

What a nice shot!! I love it. The cool thing is; you can hang it from the top, or the bottom, and no one will know the difference. :-D

So what I want is almost all built in.
I have assigned a custom button to switch off the monitor, viewfinder does not operate until it senses my eye near it, so with Power save set to 30 mins, it's at least in a low power mode.

Ok, you guys have piqued my interest in this thread. I went out & picked up an RX10 IV last night. It really is quite a neat little piece, although I have a LOT to learn about it and a good bit of acclimation to get through.

I took it out back this morning, acttually before the sun really came up & this was one of my first shots with it. Nothing special, but certainly a good starting point.

Folks prepare yourselves for more questions. :) (I did read this entire thread a couple times before I pulled the trigger on this new toy)

Macro in flight shot. Mk4 with a polaroid 250d fitted. Not the easiest thing to do. Next time I think I'll shoot normally and then crop... lol

Haha, that is a really great shot Gary, but I definitely would be heavily cropping a shot like that.

Two days in the books with the RX10. This thing is gonna be fun. I need to figure out how to program a "flight" config into one of the custom buttons so i can quickly switch from a stationary target to a moving target. It's easy with my Canon gear & I'm sure the same will be true once I figure this Sony out.

Here's a poppa Scissortail scouting food for the kids. We later saw him go back to is nest tree where mom & the kids were waiting.
