Well, took the camera out to our local nature reserve yesterday, and had a lot of fun trying it out. It was a dull, grey, cold day, so not the best weather for it, but still managed to grab a few shots. Noise was a bit of an issue, but as I say, weather was pretty dull, so to be expected really. I did try setting up bird in flight settings (memory recall) to a custom button, but found it only worked when you kept it pressed, and reverted back to normal settings as soon as you let go, which was a disappointment, as I thought you could just press it to have those settings. So I used the MR on the mode dial for this. After having played around further yesterday evening though, I set up a couple of buttons on the back of the camera to the memory recall settings, so it would be easier to press and hold them while pressing the shutter, to see if that would work better, but have yet to try this out. It's a shame that these memory recall settings on the custom buttons have to be held down to work, rather than just pressing them once to recall the settings and pressing them again to revert back to normal (a bit like Olympus e-m5 ii did when I owned it) It was great to see a bird flying and just be able to press a button to instantly have all the right settings. I have also found that programming settings in to a custom button actually keeps af mode (continuous af) and exposure comp too, unlike the MR on the mode dial, which seems to keep all settings except these 2, which you have to adjust separately, which takes more time, this is not a massive deal, just takes a bit more time, and a bit more inconvenient when you suddenly spot a bird flying over. I do wonder why this happens with the custom buttons though, when they have been programmed to memory recall settings. Why you have to press and hold, rather than just a normal button press. I would love to have my BIF settings available at the press of a button. Still aside from all that (If I've actually explained that well enough for anyone to know what I am talking about
) the camera seemed to do a great job, and after a quick look through the photos, I have managed to get a few that I am pleased with, especially considering the light, but still very much learning and getting use to it at the moment. Hopefully the weather will brighten up a bit in the next few days
