I'm quite happy with the quality at closer distances but I still have some issues with nailing focus and getting sharp images for distant objects. This was while we were visiting tide pools in San Diego.

Looks like its focused on its leg, rather than its head. What focus mode are you using?

Single Shot
Center Focus
AF w/shutter

Phase detect area - on

Face Priority - On
Subject Detection - Anial
Animal Eye Display - on

Metering Mode - Multi

The shot of the Curlew was from a low vantage point, handheld, using the viewfinder.
(Missing the articulating top-mounted screen of my R1)

Hope this is enough info.

Two photos 2 min apart. One with the UV filter Adorama added to my Camera, on without. Guess which is which...
These are 100% crops SOOC, center of frame.

Well, I'll take a guess. On my laptop the 1st photo appears to be sharper but the bottom photo has more dynamic range, so I'll guess the top is without the filter and the bottom is with the filter.

Hi everyone, just a quick update. I decided after all that the camera wasn't for me, couldn't really get on with the menus and just the general way it worked, just a few things I didn't like, and I found the noise to be a little more than I was expecting, so in the end, I decided to sell it and get something I felt more comfortable with. It's a nice camera, just couldn't get on with it myself. Only problem I have now is, as I sold the camera, Sony are now saying that I am no longer eligible for the cashback because I sold it! I am not sure this can be correct, had a look at their terms and conditions, and there is nothing to say the owner cannot sell the item. I meet all the required criteria, but apparently, as I sold it, I am now no longer eligible! I have messaged them several times to explain that I did not make any money on it, in fact, I lost money, and that I believe that I am still eligible for the cashback claim, but they now appear to be ignoring my emails, and I have heard nothing, despite sending several messages. Not really sure where to go from here. Surely, selling an item that doesn't suit should not make my cashback claim invalid? I could understand if I was a reseller, and had bought it to make money on it, but having sold it at a loss, because of my own personal preferences should have been ok. Oh well I will keep messaging them and hope to receive a reply. Thanks for all your help and advice on previous posts :) Jacqui.

Pretty far from me, on a warm day, you can see the heat waves radiating from the field on the windows

Two more photos, this time with Sony's protection filter. I think on the bottom photo that the plane of focus is on the edge of the log, rather than the lizard. Hence the sudden drop-off in focus for the tail.
