When shooting night sports, I shoot manual. I had to send my 7D2 into CPS for clean check, and they upgraded firmware from v. 1.1.1 to v. 1.1.2 and the viewfinder exposure level indicator which had shown up while shooting manual with a fixed ISO was MIA! It shows up on auto ISO or AV mode; but I need it on M mode with a fixed ISO.

I have versions 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 but now neither of them are showing the exposure level indicator as I have been seeing.

Does anyone here using a 7D2 have a version of firmware that you are able to see this in M mode with fixed ISO?

Shooting the game last night was rather tricky.

Is it "hidden" on the side?

Not sure if that will help, but worth a look.

Looks like many folks have had this problem. I must have had a version on the firmware (v.1.1.1) that showed the indicators in Man fixed ISO mode.

Well I've got v 1.1.2 and I have the meter on the right hand side IN the viewfinder in manual ISO in manual mode and in my case it has been exactly the same in 2 previous versions.

I am honestly wondering if perhaps CPS didn't connect something back when replacing my shutter this past week.

Have you perhaps used another camera recently?

I'm wondering because what you refer to is available in older and simpler cameras, but not in the 7D Mark II. The more advanced and recent cameras have the meter to the right, not below the viewfinder. The 7D has it below, but the 7D Mark II has it to the right.
Some cameras have a scale either to the right, or below the viewfinder. If it's only to the right, like in the 1DX, then both the exposure meter in full M mode and the exposure compensation in all other modes is displayed to the right. In the 7D, it's always at the bottom.
Some of the newest cameras, like the 7D Mark II and the 1DX Mark II, have dual scales. In such a case, the one to the right is exposure meter in full M mode and exposure compensation in all other modes. The one below the viewfinder is exposure compensation, and disappears when using full M mode.

A scale that has disappeared from some cameras is exactly this full manual mode exposure meter, but that's from the top display. It used to appear there in older models, but neither the 1DX nor the 1DX Mark II displays it in the top display. Maybe that's still shown on the 7D Mark II?

It's not shown on the 7D2 either. The light meter is only shown on the right side of the viewfinder. The bottom scale is exposure compensation. I think you're right that people get confused about what scale is what. But with the 7D2, it's rather easy to just remember that the bottom scale is always exposure compensation. It won't be there in manual mode with fixed ISOs. The exposure compensation will show up in the bottom of the viewfinder (as well as the top LCD) in manual mode with Auto ISO selected.

No, I only have a 7D2. There is no light meter on the right. When I move the aperture, there's a white dot that moves up or down; but no actual meter as before.

My light meter is not showing up on the right side of the viewfinder. Shooting full manual, or with fixed ISO (or auto ISO which I don't use)

A white dot or a green pixel? I don't think the viewfinder's LCD circuits have a white dot. If you're seeing a green square move up and down: then maybe the indicator portion of the circuit is working, but the display for the scale is faulty.

Oh yes, the light meter shows up to the right. You confirmed it yourself. The moving dot is moving when you select another aperture, or another time for that matter, because that changes exposure. It will of course also move if you don't change anything, but aim at a subject with a different brightness.
This is where the light meter is, and always have been, in your 7D Mark II. The scale at the bottom is exposure compensation only.

And the moving dot is green, not white.

Gee, I was pretty sure it was white; but I'll double check, there is nothing else though. Just the dot

It is green! I updated via this thread. CPS had me send it back, thinking a plug may have not been seated properly when they replaced my shutter. I was not seeing the white meter portion on the right side in all modes. It is the one on the right, that you circled in red. This isn't showing up. You are correct... it is not displayed in white (as it appears in the manual)... the LED readouts at the bottom and alongside the 7DII viewfinder display in green.

In fully Manual exposure mode... The right hand (vertical) scale displays "match needle metering" manual exposure information and the horizontal Exposure Compensation scale across the bottom is not displayed.

In any of the auto exposure modes (Av, Tv, P and M with Auto ISO enabled) BOTH the horizontal and vertical scales are displayed and BOTH show Exposure Compensation. Those scales also will show any bracketing or bracketing + E.C. that you've set up. (Note: E.C. in M w/Auto ISO can only be set via the menu. In that AE mode, the rear dial is used to adjust aperture. In other AE modes, the rear dial can be used to adjust E.C.)
