A Knife, a Carrot and a Cutting board

Saw a similiar image on 500px a while back.

Tried my own version.

What do you think?

I'd sand the roug edges on the cutting board cuts.

Yes, I saw that as well, didn't notice it until ut was to late though

A clever idea, but the illusion will work better if the cut edges of the carrot align with the cut lines on the board.

The carrot was cut exactly after the cutting board, but it felt like rolling around a little for every adjustment/shot.
Next time I'll glue it in place before cutting

Your problem here is perspective. I would shoot each section separately in the center of the frame. Then piece them all together then adjust a fake perspective in PS later. Itd be way cleaner and it would look like the carrot and the board were cut at the same time.

The above is probably a reasonable explanation for why I think the image is just off.
I think I grasp the concept, but it just doesn't work for me visually.

If I were going to try this, I think I'd glue or some other way secure the carrot to the board. Then cut both of them together at the same time. Then move the sections apart a specific, measured amount and shoot. Also probably use a relatively long lens. 100mm minimum on 35mm frame.

Begging your pardon, I don't see this method working out neatly. A saw would make a mess of the carrot edges. The carrot needs a sharp knife. But a knife wouldn't cut the board.

I'd saw the board first and sand the cut edges. Then assemble the pieces. Clamp them to another board of about the same width, leaving just enough space between adjacent pieces to admit the knife blade. Fasten the carrot on top with painter's tape. Cut the carrot with the knife straight up, using the spaces between board pieces to guide the blade.

Love the idea, and think it turned out pretty well, some of the comments make sense, and I may try something like this myself someday, great idea and nice "food" for thought.
