So far, I'm really liking this lens. I like this shot but something seems a little off and I can't put my head on it. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

I've actually read of quite a few people complaining that on bodies like the 5DSr they need a lot higher shutter speed to get a sharp image as the camera shake shows up a lot easier. I'm in Sydney so I'm not sure where I'll buy it from once I have the funds and sell off my Sigma. I just got GFX with 110mm f2 and did a shoot. Shot at 1/125 (max sync speed) hand held and that lens is super sharp at f2 which is like f1.6 on FF. Seems better than my 85L. Would I like IS on the lens, for sure for the price that I paid. However I understand there are some focus issues (AF speed, focus shift, etc). When you nail it, its magical and 3D "pop" look is unique. the modern look are kinda clinical, like the sigma Art series and the Canon modern zooms you mentioned.... and Z.e.i.s.s.... ![]() maybe its me, I prefer the old school look.... I am with you. 200mm f2 look is no way near as 24-70mm f2.8 II which to me has one of the worst looks. I bought it when it came and maybe took < 10 pictures. My 35L I, Sigma 35mm f1.4 art, Sigma 50mm f1.4 not art, Sigma 85mm f1.4 non art and 85L II were all better than that 24-70mm zoom. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

Nov 12, 2017 21:14 | #142 I believe there is a compromise when Canon choose to release the 85mm f/1,4L IS for some genres like events, weddings, action, etc and choose not to discontinue the 85mm f/1,2L mark II for specialized genres like portraits. The 1.2L is a one trick pony but it's one helluva pony doing what it does best, it's the main reason why so many portrait photographers who owned the 1.2 willing to put up with the horrendous purple fringing (possibly the worst LoCa I've ever seen in any L lens) and slow/inconsistent AF for so many years. Due to its short comings, i don't always find a great pleasure or fun to use in comparison to the 35L II or 100L Macro, but for portraiture it is the first lens i grabbed out of the bag because it simply delivered for me, every single time. 5D Mark III, Samyang 14mm, 35LII, 85L II, 100L IS Macro, 24-105L, 70-200L 2.8 IS II. 580EX, AB400, AB800.

fplstudio Senior Member More info | Nov 13, 2017 04:00 | #145 Having seen in the last few weeks so many posts on 85mm I decided yesterday to grab my old EF 85 1.8 and shot the kids playing at the beach. Looking at the results now ..... and I am really struggling to find compelling arguments to justify even looking at lenses 3 to 6 times more expensive. 10+ years with Canon, now new fresh air with Sony Full Frame

Edited:- Looking again and his beard seems quite a bit more sharp and mustache is quite blurry. Even the hair below the lip are sharper while mustache above lip isn't.
Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

The eye is sharp, and the shape of his face is such that the chin is still on the edge of the sharp zone whereas his further towards the camera mustache is not - if you saw his side profile it would be obvious. it is one of the reason that with closer focus lenses such as the new tamron VC primes, you really need to stop down to get enough DoF - and yet the background and foreground will still be blown out Yup, the razor thin DOF was the reason. Notice his eyebrows, nose, and mustache/upper lips are aligned on the same plane of focus which are all blurred. 5D Mark III, Samyang 14mm, 35LII, 85L II, 100L IS Macro, 24-105L, 70-200L 2.8 IS II. 580EX, AB400, AB800.
