Check DxO Optics Pro. At basic conversion (demosaicing) it's much better than ON1 Photo RAW, almost as good as Canon's DPP.

I think you can get a free version until end of Nov 2017.

What's Macphun? Is it for Windows? And what's the damage (cost)?

Macphun is a a company. https://macphun.com …3CAAY0EAAYASAAEgI9e_D_BwE (external link) It was started by engineers who left Nik when Google took over Nik.

Macphun has 3 main products: Creative Kit (package of several apps kind of like the Nik Collection), Luminar (one stop shopping for general photo editing), and Aurora (specific to HDR). They have released both Mac and Windows versions of Luminar and Aurora. Creative Kit is still Mac only.

Adobe product managers have said that Lr is in serious need of updating.....it is still basically the 2015 version. Both PS and even Elements have been updated.

Great find!

It's the current version, no less. Essential edition, not Elite, but no big loss, at least for me.

Thank you lacogada!

EDIT: Installed and did a first check of DxO OpticsPro 11 Essential. I think you should start a new thread with this info, to let more people benefit from it.

There's already a thread about that under "market watch"

Cameras: EOS M & M3 --- Lenses: 22mm EF-M, 18-55mm EF-M, FD 50mm f/1.4, EF-S 55-250mm IS II, Sigma 600mm f/8
Disclaimer:The fact that I'm slightly color blind with a crappy monitor and have little or no clue about PP doesn't prevent me from enjoying holding a camera - it just makes it harder to make my photos look normal to you...

I can see how well the subscription model has worked for Adobe. Not nearly enough new release of LR.. Once they had people hook on the subscription model, the release of new features REALLY slowed down. Of course they have little competition too.

I emailed On1 and Brian Matiash who provides some content for On1. Brian responded immediately and was going to send my feedback to his On1 contacts.

Btw, thanks for the DxO link! I installed it last night without issues and started to process some images. It has some interesting features.

+1.....Thanks a bunch lacogada! DXO OP is my favorite converter. I have 8 free but 9 free didn't work for me, 11 free works great. I've even thought about buying it. Free is much better, I like free!

I have gotten no response from OnOne other than an automated acknowledgement of receipt of my inquiry.

Please email nathankeudell@on1.com. He is one of the product managers. I received an email from him asking for details with my experience working with RAW 2017.

Compared to the free ver. 9 Elite, with the current 11 Essential you get improved Selective tone controls (better highlight recovery) but lose Moire correction.

I decided to download the beta to have a look. I also bought into the 2017 hype, and it's rarely used. So far not impressed. Slower than 2017.

Yes, I'm loving 11 Essential. It has all the tools that I use most except perspective control, their "Prime" NR, and de-haze. I have Noiseware so I'm good on NR and I can still use 8 Elite for perspective control. I also don't miss the de-haze feature, because I know how to reduce haze without it...lol. I'm, very happy with the free download and have no plans to buy the Elite version 11.

I purchased On1 PR2017 when they had the "Back to School" sale and it was $49. I received an email from On1 the day after the 2018 reveal telling me that I would be getting a FREE upgrade to 2018 when it was released the end of this month.
