My camera bag rolled into a river in The Smokies....5d3, 16-35 f4, 24 tilt shift....Canon says totaled ..
Is it worth pursuing with someone to get them repaired? No insurance
Heart broken....
Any advice appreciated.....

Really, the camera itself could probably be repaired with the main board replaced, circuits, etc. The rest probably still functions. The lens may have lost some functionality, but it can probably still be manually focused. So really the only thing that needs repair there to work is something to allow aperture control again. Same with the tilt shift. There are people who may want to buy and attempt repairs.

Paying someone to repair them is a non-guarantee and you'll pay about as much as a used one of each would cost regardless as the person has to get the part(s) and be paid for their time (which will be considerable as you don't know exactly what is needed on each device). Rotten luck. But at least you didn't roll into a river and get broken. Very best, Agree...I was not hurt...just my pride, that will come back Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

Oct 04, 2017 15:39 | #10 The good news is that my insurance carrier assigned my claim to someone who did not understand my policy. She called me back and apologized that she misinterpreted my coverage and insurance will be covering my gear.... Sigh of relief.... I have never found a homeowners/renters policy that covered camera equipment and have always had a separate rider for my camera gear. Care to share the company name? Not sure why, but call me JJ.

it was on a separate rider on the policy...the adjuster made a mistake looking at my policy and I took her word. I was going to call my agent to **** but she called me first thing in the morning.
