DIY Ceiling Mounted Flash Setup?

I have installed some brackets in my ceiling and mounted a small background in my garage that I use to take pictures of shirts/jackets for my eBay business, but I'd like to be able to mount these speedlites on my ceiling somehow and be able to pivot/position them and still use my umbrellas. The only option that I can think of is to cut my light stand and mount that on my ceiling somehow, but I would prefer to not do that since I only have 2 light stands and would prefer to keep this as cheap as possible. Any ideas would be helpful.

Light stands are pretty cheap. You can get a set of two Cowboy Studio stands for $25, probably cheaper than some other DIY methods. Another option would be to mod an adjustable desk lamp like this (external link) one. Much more adjustable.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point..

Yeah, it looks like the light stand option is the best. That way I don't have to mod anything to hold my flash/umbrella combo.

No umbrella functionality, since I just use them for hair lights.

You wanted DIY on the cheap, well, grab a screw from the dirt in the corner of your workshop, pull your included stands out of the cases and there ya go!

I have an idea that would allow movement along a rail (EMT) but haven't put it together yet. I would like to be able to hang the set up in different positions, rather than having a bunch of different rails, but haven't figured it all out yet.

Very welcome! Just be sure to drill pilot holes through the stand before putting screws through them.
