Hi All,

I just bought a used 1DX2 yesterday.

On looking on System Menu - I have found it has had several Error 01 - communication problems between camera and lens. Looking on Canon site - this suggests it should have been sent in for servicing. It has 148K actuations.

Is this a reason to return it (has 6 month warranty) - I have emailed Canon CPS asking if it has been sent in (it has been registered with them by previous owner)

Perhaps they used a bad lens on the camera trying it out, or had an aftermarket and periodically mounted it causing an error? Sometimes a TC on a lens, like the YongNuo 2x Canon knockoff, will cause errors.

valid point.

I have just looked into what caused the errors : it was with a canon 70-200 mark II, with and without a 1.4tc.

I suspect the camera really could do with a service - and as the error log is still there and the software has not been updated, I'm pretty sure it has not been done.

I had a list like that in my 1DX, when the EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS USM died on me.
I have one such log in my 1DX Mark II now, since when the replacement lens, the EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS II USM wasn't properly mounted.

Does it generate any errors with YOUR lenses? If not, maybe it has been repaired already. Or the seller had a defective lens.

If you really want to get rid of the camera, I'll take it... free. I'll even pay for shipping! :)

Oh, so true! I'd never want any of my POTN pals to be stressed or burdened by improperly working gear. Just the kinda guy I am. :)

I've had my 1DX2 for 14 months, and I never knew the Status Log existed. I checked mine, and there was nothing in it. I've always used Canon lenses. Your screen shot is interesting in that three of the log entries happened on the same day. The other 2 were just one in March and another in April. Given 148K actuations, the log entries seem small. It will be interesting to hear what Canon says.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Like some other posters I suspect the lens. I had this error (during a wedding shoot!) and it was with my oldest and most beat up 24-70. I didn't have any issues with any other lens. Sent the old lens to CPS and they cleaned & adjusted it. Haven't seen the error since.

I thought the same, however the log only has that many entries anyway(I think), so any older ones would have been deleted
