Top photo ... NO its perfect. Do not touch the light coming across her front cloths.
I _really_ like the first photo. I sure hope you have lots of rez on that one. Now, I say that from an Art perspective, where I would not care when people said "its dark". So if want to lighten it _sllightly_ go ahead, but really watch the back quad lighting on the cloths. You want mood in this photo not perfect lighting. This image needs to be on your web site.

On the second photo ... crop in (above the waist) to decrease her "hunch" then NO. With the crop in you will bring out the purity of the face - her expression and lighting on the face will carry the photo. Mom will probalby cry when she see it. I loved doing that to moms; when moms cry and dads come up to say "thanks" you have done your job and added to our (your) culture.

For me, your picture at the left seems to be about right. Of course, one would have to be there and see the lighting himself to be a good judge of the colors. However, the picture on the right is too orange for me.

One way that you could resolve the issue is to photograph a Gray card in the ambient light and use that as a Custom White Balance.

The edited image is too washed out, in my opinion. The saturation has been reduced to the point of being weak.

I also think that in your right hand picture you have captured the boy's smile and personality. It is a wonderful portrait.

Congratulations.

Thanks for the comments. They were taken handheld at a Paddy's night party See Irish Setter Paddy dressed for the occasion. Needless to say the kids were a bit hypo and the85L slow to focus without flash help.

Its a girl btw. Cambodian orphan adopted by a friend of mine.

Top photos chrnat...I really like them. Of the very top two, the col. temp of the one on the right does look too "hot", but I really like the expressions. Hope your friends like them too:-)

chrnat,

Nice stuff, first and third are great, if you work the first image be very gentle, a little lighter perhaps but don't lose the contrasts. The puppy, who can take a bad picture of a good dog?

Appreciate the opportunity to see your work and get a chance to comment.

David
