My parents are taking a nice vacation and purchased a Canon Rebel t6i so they would not be using their cell phones. They are looking at the following kit on Amazon for filters.

https://www.amazon.com …s=goja+lens+kit+rebel+t6i (external link)

They are not looking for anything great, I am just trying to advise them on whether this would be decent or instantly lower the quality of their photos.

I would not purchase for what I do; however, they do not need something great and expensive.

I wouldn't touch them. I reckon they would be of dubious quality. About the only item worth buying would be a polarising filter. It would be better to buy a branded one such as from Hoya.

Heya,

They do not need any filters at all. Literally no reason to have 1 stop, 2 stop ND filters, UV filter, etc, hardly ever, let alone on vacation. Don't waste any money here.

The only filter to even consider taking is a CPL (and only if they think they will see a lot of water that is reflecting strong light). And for that, I'd look to an inexpensive Marumi, Hoya, etc, in the filter size of their most commonly used lens(s) thread size.

Do your parents have experience with using cameras in general? Or is this thing going to be set in P the whole time? This is a fundamental question because it also helps answer the question about filters in general.

Very best,

Where exactly are they headed? Contrary to some comments about not needing filters at all, there might be some destinations where a simple circular polarizer would be very useful.

Keep in mind as well that the kit has a lot of "fluff" in it to make it look good. You don't need lens caps, cleaning cloths, lens cap retainer, etc. They can just get what they decide they need as the need arises.

Actually, a polarizer is useful anyplace you have a lot of non-specular reflections. Foliage in landscapes, for example.

That's a valid question. If they aren't used to using a DSLR, then fiddling with filters will just make everything more complicated for them.
