I recently was contacted by a local small animal shelter to photograph their dogs needing adoption. I gladly accepted and here's some of them. This was my first such shoot. I will say it is work trying to get decent images. Most of them are not disciplined.

This is Sparky, a male Blue Healer.

Just a couple more from the shoot.

This is Raven, a female Husky mix. My wife fell deeply in love with her. She's about 7 months old and is full of love and energy. We did bring her home with the full intent of adoption. That failed because we have a small pup, that is getting old. She could not handle Raven's playfulness, which almost injured her. So we had to return her to the shelter. Gladly another party should be adopting her within the next day or so.

It's not easy work, it's not glamorous work and the pay is horrible. But it's VERY rewarding work.

Good on you for doing it.

Yes it is. I shot for a couple of shelters before I moved. One actually setup a background, the other was more of what you did. Its great interacting with all the different personalties they present, and heartbreaking for the ones that keep getting overlooked.

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away

You did a great job capturing their personalities. Your photos will probably help them to get adopted, which must be a great feeling.
