This is nothing special, just a vacation photo, so not looking for a critique on composition etc.

Basically, this photo was very washed out and dull because of strong backlight.

I tried to salvage it the best I could, and I actually like the results well enough. Unfortunately this was my only decent photo of Big Ben and Parliament from across the river, we've planned to make it back but never did.

So the question, is the foreground / shadows too dark, or should I just live it like that ?

Thanks !

First hurts my my eyes by over processing, second is dull. This is where problem is. You can't get good picture is original is so-so. IMO.
Maybe BW will save it...

Agreed.

Circular polarizer can really help these kinds of shots.

Only thing I would do if it were me printing it, would be transform the perspective so the buildings were all upright.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I'd brighten it a tad more. Not saying it's the best thing to do but it's what I'd do. :)

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I updated the photo and forgot that I linked to it... sorry.. the original is gone.

Here's the final version... I decided not to mess with perspective corrections as I didn't like the results.
