Since I am out of race for buying 200mm f2 I will tell the secret. Setup an alert at canon price watch for $4000 or under. Then wait for the email. Now instead of buying at Canon refurb store, check out Adorama. They have had 200m f2 quite a few times in last few months for under that price. And it comes with 90 days warranty. Much better than buying here at POTN.

Why didn't I buy one? I was worried about newer version coming out. That is the only canon lens from the big whites which has not been updated to version II yet. I know what Canon can improve on such a nice lens? Just look at newer 300mm & 400 f2.8 IS II. And I picked up another camera/lens and moving away from Canon.

....except for the 800mm f5.6 which I believe also came out in '08 with the 200mm f2

Is there a particular reason why people use the Canon 6d with the 200 f2? I see that combo pretty frequently. I was just surprised being an entry level camera with an expensive piece of glass. Thanks and happy new year.

I use that combo because I feel I get more unique and special images that way than with a more expensive camera and most less expensive lenses.
