I have a new to me in great shape Canon brand grip for my 7D II. all the buttons work as they should EXCEPT the shutter button on the grip only focuses when pressed, it does NOT "take a picture".

The main shutter button works as expected. all the buttons not he grip work as they should.

I am thinking I may have a setting wrong, but I can't find a setting that deals with the grip....

any advice??

Right now I have only one battery in the grip (waiting for the order to come in with more batteries), would that do it?)

Perhaps toggle the BBF on then off again?

Make sure that the main dial(the one by the shutter button) on both the camera and the grip has stopped on a definite click stop and is not lodged between two click stops. The type of behavior that you describe can be caused by this little glitch.

Back button focus. I suppose there is a possibility that the settings are somehow confused between the camera and the grip.

Worth a shot. It will at least eliminate some questions.

No setting takes releasing the shutter off the shutter button. Work the button a few hundred times. Clean ALL the contacts where the grip meets the camera, on the grip, and inside the camera.
