That's what I do on my only variable aperture Canon lens if I'm shooting manual. Otherwise, I'll often just let auto ISO make up the difference as I zoom.

I think part of the reason I don't like the unmarked ring on Fuji's variable aperture lenses is that seeing and setting the aperture means trying to read an LCD in sunlight unless I put the camera to my face. I got a Hoodman eye cup for the EVF which helped tremendously but of course doesn't help the big screen. I know it's a minor complaint but it detracts from the tactile Fuji experience IMO.

I don't know, generally if you're shooting you're either looking through the viewfinder or you have a clear view of the rear screen since you're composing with one of the two options, thus you're always able to see your aperture value. The only issue I have with it is that on my 18-55mm the aperture ring is too sensitive, I tend to stop it down by half a stop on accident quite often.
