This is one of approximately 6400 different species of katydids, worldwide. There are about 255 species in North America. I got these pictures of one in the Ouachita Mountains in southeast Oklahoma. Insects are strange looking, and very complex creatures, if you look closely enough.
(The lens listed in the EXIF data isn't the one I used. I used an old 55mm Micro-Nikkor for these shots. It isn't on the list of choices for Nikon lenses... in fact NO prime lenses are listed, just zoom lenses, either wide-angle or telephoto. I wish POTN would just let people write in the equipment they use rather than having to select one POTN has listed. There is a LOT of equipment out there that POTN doesn't include in their lists.)
