My wife was fast enough at Ironman Chattanooga last year to qualify (for the third time!) for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, so over the past week and a half I was there and shooting her, our teammates, and everything else that looked interest.

First up is her getting tested by the reps from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute for sweat rate and contents. The mesh wrap on her forearms is holding down some bandage, which got sent to the lab for electrolyte analysis. Volume was taken via weights before and after defined work intervals.

Second is a panned shot of her heading out on the bike, and my best panning shot of the day.

And of course there were a ton of flags for both the spectators and the racers, down the finish chute.

NBCSN was broadcasting the full thing live for the first time.

The defending champion, Jan "Frodo" Frodeno, fell apart with a back cramp in the first 5k of the run and literally was lying down on the grass at several points to loosen up. Here he's recovered enough to get back to a solid jog, but was far out of contention.

It is also the para-triathlon Ironman championship.
