So if we are done with LR, whats our choices?

Switched over to CaptureOne Pro when Ar$obe came out with their Cheat Cloud shenanigans. Have never looked back.

Capture One is perpetually $180 a year if you want all the upgrades, otherwise you pay $300 one time, and at some point, the upgrades stop.

Seems more expensive yet???

People want to buy once and own a copy of software and run it on their own system/computing power, and not have to go to the cloud all the time time for licensing checks, and other pseudo-real-time stuff that might be in the cloud......

Also, many of us spend huge amounts of time in places that have no internet service, no cell service, etc. . I am talking about very remote areas with no kind of signals of any kind. . What are we supposed to do if the stuff we need is "in the cloud" and we are in an area - for weeks at a time - with no way to access the cloud?

The whole way Adobe does things seems to assume that we are usually "connected".....and this is simply not true at all.

They do have sales from time to time. I've seen a 20% off and 40% and picked up a copy a couple years back at 50% off. Still have it and use it so my cost is approaching $38 a year.

It may be expensive but I'd be willing to pay a lot more for a stand alone version of LR7. It is more principle to me.

I don't remember what I paid for Capture one pro 8... but the upgrade to 10 was only $99.

You use your cellphone to communicate and pay monthly fee for spectrum use. It's the same thing.

The thing is, Lightroom is not really a small fee under the subscription model. LR6 was released in April, 2015, so that is 30 months between upgrades. That is $300 spent without any major upgrade under the CC model. A full perpetual license of LR used to cost $150, and an upgrade to the latest version if you already owned a license was $80. Even if you upgraded every time Adobe upgraded to a new release, they have now almost quadrupled the cost for upgrading their software.

If Adobe had simply announced a new Lightroom 7 with an upgrade price of $300, how many people would be okay with that price increase? Well, that is the price increase, but Adobe is just disguising it for all the people who are unable to figure a 20% tip on a restaurant check in their head.

Don't forget - whether you use it or not, the CC sub includes Photoshop, so how much would that perpetual license for both Lightroom and Photoshop cost?

There are many of us who do not use Photoshop, so forcing us to pay for it anyway is ridiculous.

Only valuable if you want/need PS. I'm in that situation but the other way round. I still use PS6 and Adobe/friends try to get me to sign up for CC. The argument most used is "but you get LR as well." I've had LR and decided years ago that it's not for me so might as well have said, "but you get a copy of a Turkish thesaurus along with PS".

This is only a short term blip on adobes financials, though. Netflix went thru this too when they separated the DVD mailing from the monthly streaming effectively doubling their fees. Years later and they have more than overcome the customer backlash. Unfortunately this is the way everything is headed which means your discretionary funds dwindle a bit more each year.

I downloaded it and played around with it for a couple minutes and it's pretty nice! Seems far faster than Lightroom, very far. It's free so it's worth downloading just to try!

Affinity Photo as a photoshop alternative is only $50.
