Hello,

I have changed over to Fuji around a year ago from Canon. The system is fantastic but one thing I can't seem to be able to get my head around is one auto focus issue, quite a specific one.

As an example, if there are two people walking towards me as they get closer they become out of focus. I'm using continuous shutter (high or CH), continuous focus and wide tracking.

I am beginning to wonder if the case may be that the camera is holding the focus when I press the shutter rather than looking at where the subject is between each shot and refocusing.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and I'm using an XT1.

What lens? Have you the camera in C for the AF, front dial [S-C-M]? Are you using the PDAF section of the AF only?

I was using 50-140mm 2.8. The camera is set to C on the front dial. And I'm using the centre AF points which as I understand is the section that have phase detection.

Oh, at walking pace it should do more then fine. I presume you have firmware 4 or higher installed.

Wide tracking can often use Contrast Detection AF and not Phase Detection AF on the X-T1, try the Zone setting and keep the size of the square in the PDAF points. Although in CH mode you should be only in the PDAF section anyway.

I'll do some tests over the weekend with zone tracking and see what I get. Many thanks for your help.

It should work fine. I shoot baseball with that setup and for someone coming at me, no problems at all.
