That doesn't look like noise to me that looks like sharpening artifacts. What is your sharpening set to on these captures? A few of them look like missed focus too.

There has been no sharpening applied either in camera or in LR/PS. Cropped only, nothing else done. I didn't want these samples manipulated in any way. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Other samples here not cropped as tight. https://billmorris.smugmug.com …/RIII-ISO-tests/n-6LQ9MV/ (external link)

Go look at your LR. Maybe it’s applying a default. Slam it to 0 on sharpening and re upload

Will, I have just sent you 6 RAWs by wetransfer. You should receive a download link. I shot at ISO 250 f/1.8, f/4 and f/8 then at ISO 640 f/1.8, f/4, f8.

Have a look and see what you think. When I open these in lightroom and dont apply any settings im not seeing any noise. Check if you are seeing the same in your photo editor.

Thank you Eddie, I got them and will check them out. Take a look at the one's above I posted after turning adjusting the sharpening in Lightroom to zero. Better but not without but at the same time we are talking 42 mp also. I appreciate that tip on the LR sharpening from Talley. I never go to the detail as I only organize, crop and possibly slightly adjust exposure/push shadows in Lightroom.

Noise is fine... nice and clean. Careful with sharpening.

Lens is soft... should be sharper. what lens are you using?

Also... all noise is not created equal. Your in daylight... stopped down a bit. High shutter... your noise should be super clean. ISO 1250 can be noisy if your in poor light and need F2 and 1/60 for proper exposure.

To me it looks like your using a 1.4x but I can't tell because I can't see the exif

I thought it might be the lens too. I sent him raws from the batis 85 so will see how he finds them compared to his own

Since my noise should be super clean, any thoughts on why it isn't? Not sure why it doesn't give the lens here and yes I'm using a 1.4x converter as well. The lens is the FE 100-400 f/4.5‑5.6 GM OSS. I'm going to shoot a few this evening minus the converter.

I'll see what shots look like without the converter. I always AFMA my Canon stuff using Reikan FoCal software. Wish it worked with more that Nikon and Canon.

I was able to get $200 credited back on the Riii due to a price drop and being it's been less than 30 days since I bought the body. Nice surprise today.

This is with the 1.4 and the lens looks pretty sharp here.
