That was a completely different feature. What Canon's Eye control focus did was that the camera would follow your eye and selected the nearest focus point based on what you were looking at. It was decent but not extremely accurate. You couldn't just look at your subjects eye and insure that it was in perfect focus. This is not that at all. I actually evaluated the image and find your subjects eye then I am assuming focuses using the nearest point. However, it has way more points to choose from so I'm guessing it's going to be much more accurate.

Would be nice if at 10fps the RAW files stayed at 14-bit instead of dropping to 12-bit compressed. Again, a lossless RAW compressed file option would be nice to have, those uncompressed files are huge. Still they listened about the touch screen, joystick, battery etc...

At least they do seem to listen.

This man is absolutely correct. You hand your canon over to someone that knows nothing all images will be blurry!!!

I have three cameras, this is how I mainly use them:

- I shoot events and sports with my main camera being a 1DXii,
- I shoot portraits with my main camera being my 5DSR
- I shoot nearly everything else with my A7Rii and a Canon 24-70 F2.8

My major issue, and the only major issue I have with the Sony A7Rii, and now A7Riii, is that if you are going to be working for hours with a camera in your hands, that Sony camera needs a grip (at least for my hands) - and I can learn to deal with the smallness of it besides the grip.

I say this with all honesty, this new Sony, if it had 85% of the ergonomics of a 5D4 or D850, Canon might not sell another 5D4 - why?
- better sensor
- EVF for metering / exposure
- Eye/AF
- silent shutter if needed

The fact is, Sony is going to sell a crap load of these cameras. I will most likely trade in my A7Rii for the new one, but for me personally, I need really good ergonomics if I'm going to work an event - but if it isn't an event, then the new Sony will take it - and now I think even the 5DSR will get sold.

If I was a Nikon user, with lots of Nikon glass, I would buy the D850 - otherwise the A7Riii is going to start to do real damage to 5D4 sales in my opinion.

The A7RII didn't hurt the 5D3 sales, so why would the A7RIII hurt the 5D4 ? Again, it's more than just camera bodies...it's about the entire ecosystem you're in.

When I purchased 2 5D3s 4 years ago for events, I completely agree - it was entirely about the ecosystem - Canon had the best two event lenses in the world at that time (24-70 & 70-200) and a good 35Li and a pretty amazing 85Lii - I owned them all and used them all.

If faced with the same decision today, Canon is not going to get anyone coming over from Nikon, as Nikon event users did do in small numbers for the 5D3 (I know two of them personally who did this), and with an EVF for exposure and also silent shooting, (let's just completely remove the better sensor as a factor), Sony now has very comparable event zooms, a just as good 85 1.4 to Canon's latest - let's give Canon the better 35 1.4 lens (I own it but it cost $2k), Sony's package, in many peoples eyes is better.

And I haven't even mentioned the D850

So yes, I think Canon is now going to have a major issue with their 5D4 - you can currently buy a sale refurbed for $2300 in the US - that tells you all you need to know.

Sony lens lineup is great now between Sony, zeiss, Sony zeiss, Voigtlander options and the fact that you can adapt almost any legacy lens from nearly every manufacturer. I don’t see how the eco-system could be better. Not trying to persuade anyone one way or the other because I couldn’t care less what others shoot, I just don’t get why people get so butt hurt in threads and try and defend their brand to the hilt. I’ve used canon, Fuji and Sony and don’t have any brand loyalty to any of them. I just happen to use Sony and Fuji at this time as they offer the best spec for my needs

The manufacturers will never be able to please everyone. I would personally hate my a7rii to be any bigger and it would probably have stopped me purchasing if it was dslr sized. Each to their own though. You have to buy what suits your needs which is exactly what you have done with your 3 body setup

Where did you see referbs for $2300. At that price the decision to buy becomes pretty easy. On Canon's referb site they show the body only at $2799.

Not defending anything, don't care what other shoot either and definitely not "butt hurt" . Are the sensors from Nikon/Sony better ? Of course they are ! That doesn't mean Canon is now garbage ? It has nothing to do with "brand loyalty" either...not everyone can afford to jump ship once heavily invested in a system.

People have to stop thinking gear is the solution to everything...knowledge​, competence and skill is where it's really at ! Would my photography be night/day better with an A7RIII or Nikon D850 ? That's a big NOPE ! Right now my only limiting factor is ME...not the gear I use and in my opinion, this is true for most photographers !
