Greetings,
Shot this small fern against rows of rubber trees in a rubber estate. Please comment. I'm going back there again to improve on today's session. Thanks for your views. Enjoy...

It's a very nice image with good exposure and good color balance.
The lighting seems to be giving you a good rendition of the subject, although the vantage point gives you backlighting on most of the fern.

From the standpoint of composition, I would suggest that the camera was pointed a little too high. It gave you too much featureless area above the fern, and you could have used a bit more foreground material below.

Also, the tip of the fern looks like it comes right up to the edge of the frame and stops. That "kissing" effect causes an unwanted tension at that point.

Greetings,
Thanks Robert for your comments. Your comments have always help me a lot in improve my technique. May be it was a bit careless on my part during framing, letting the edge of the fern to be cut out, and will be more carefull the next session. Thanks again.

Well, don't take it as if anything has been ruined. Remember two things that are important - 1) artistic license still carries a lot of weight, and 2) my critiques are just my opinion.

You have to sum the total of dozens of experiences to get to your own truth. OK?

The exposure and color are very nice. I agree with Bob (Sharpfocus) that the tilted horizon is distracting and Bob (Lay) that I'd prefer the tip of the fern to be in the shot.

But it's just the opinion from a trio of Bob's ...

My .02 ....

Your fern line ends 2/3rds up the photo. Take your hand and and shield off most of the top of the photo ... is the composition stronger? Im not so sure there is much in the upper third of the photo that begs to explain why its there.

Robert L is way right ... the fern really should complete itself in the photo ... unless you want to evoke the tension he mentioned.

One other thing ... the lighting bothers me. The back lighting reflecting off the fern picked up a few degrees on the EV scale. I suggest you try to put a tad bit more detail in your high lights. I guess what Im saying is that to much of your subject's highlight is in zone 8.

Hope that helps :D
