Guys, just a heads-up that if you're in the market for a high-end tripod (and you're willing to be a little patient) FLM Canada is running an Indiegogo campaign for their new model, the Berlin 38.4. It looks like it's intended to compete with RRS 3-series and high-end Gitzos. FLM is a German company that seems to be pretty well regarded in Europe, and FLM Canada is the North America distributor.

Fair note about my bias here: I'm a backer.

Wow, this is without question the worst promo video ever! lol :)

It looks like it is going to be very nice. Love the easy disassembly for cleaning etc.

They are way far behind on the method to swap plates though. Gitzo and Induro have had tool-less plate swapping for years now,. it surprises me to see FLM sticking with needing an allen key. For some this won't be a problem, as they would rend to set up a tripod and leave it be, but for some of us, we swap plates like lenses :)

re: Plates, it looks like they may be compatible with Gitzo and therefore Induro and Benro plates,. which is a big plus.

I think their S-series clamps on their ballheads are arca-compatible, but any of their lever clamps are proprietary unfortunately.

I generally use a few different plates (mainly a M-Plate Pro so that I never have to swap stuff around to have an arca plate that works with the BlackRapid strap system) so I prefer screw clamps instead of lever clamps, so this isn't a big deal for me, but I know a lot of people prefer the feeling of security that a lever clamp provides.

But yeah, their cinematography skills could use a bit of polish, heh.

RE: plate, if I was unclear, I was talking about the tripod platform onto which a head can be installed, or a "bowl adapter" etc. Every manufacturer seems to have a different name for them.

Ahh, gotcha. I'd have to assume there's some degree of universal specs there, since they say they support other manufacturers' bowls as well.
