I've been given the green light from the wife to have a weekend to myself ... probably in late April (ish) of 2018. I own a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120, a Canon 80D, and I hope to have either the Canon 300mm f/4 L or the 400mm f/5.6 L. I also plan to use my Manfrotto 3001 tripod and Manfrotto Ballhead. Besides the lens, I don't plan to buy any other gear. It'll be hard enough acquiring the lens between now and then.
I live in Albany, NY. I could stay local. I could head north into the Adirondacks. Or I could head towards the ocean. I'd like to stay under 3 hours of drive time, but I'm open to suggestions farther.
I want to put myself in the best position to get "interesting wildlife". I know every answer to this thread is going to start with, "It depends on what you want to shoot". I get that, but given that I have a lot of time to plan, I was hoping to start a dialogue about the pro's and con's of different animal types based on my location and gear.
Anyone have any "Great Spots" that they know about? Personal stories? The one that got away stories? Bigfoot sightings? The loch ness monster?
Most you don't live in the northeast ... just thought I'd give it a shot.
