The D50 Project has started

Won the auction for a Nikon D50 on ebay, lens is no good but hey.. for $60 it came with a charger, battery *AND* 2gb card!!
So next is to get a replacement AF-S 18-55 DX glass and its ready to roll!

This will be my daughter's gift for xmas. A dinosaur! But the deal is.. if she shows interest in the art
and actually USES the camera, Ill be more than happy to build a scratch pile to get her a 5300 or something nice!
The good thing is, whatever lens she has for this camera will run on the 5300 (AF-S DX glass works fine on both).
(See, Im just a little smart when it comes to planning!!)

I took a few pix with it tonight.. decent 6mp images. Even at 1600 it does NOT like indoor at night photography! HA HA!

Tomorrow I hope to take some with daylight (if it stays daylight long enough!) and see how they turn out.

Its like giving your kid a 4 cyl Pinto to learn to drive on. Show me you will wheel it and appreciate it,
I will try to help you upgrade.

From today, Godox X1T-N and TT600 with 33" shoot though.. Camera takes wonderful pictures!

The D50 project has officially been scrapped!

It has been converted to the D40 Project!

Yeah, found a D40 in GREAT SHAPE for $110 on ebay, I had to pull the trigger! The UI is more improved and a better ergo to it, plus.. now... *I GET TO KEEP THE D50 FOR MYSELF! * HA HA!

It should be here end of the week, Ill post some pix later.

Also got from Nikon a re-cert 18-55 AF-S glass for $95.. Good thing is, it can be used on a newer camera if she graduates (Thinking a nice D7000!, agn, used and inexpensive!)

So your daughter gets the D40 instead of the D50? Both are nice cameras. Often, an older camera is best for a beginner (your daughter) just because there are
less "bells & whistles" that can be a distraction. Some years ago I bought a Nikon refurbished D40 from my local camera store. It was on sale for a super low price and no sales tax. It looked brand new. I learned a lot about photography from that Nikon.

As a side note, back in 2008 Sears had the D50 and 18-55 lens kit on a clearance sale for $318. It was new, not refurb. I bought it, then checked prices on ebay just for fun. Used kits were going for more than I paid at Sears. To make a buck, I immediately put the D50 kit on ebay. I didn't use it, and it was in its original packaging. A bidding war began, and my D50 kit sold for more than $550. I made a nice little profit. Went back to Sears to score another D50, but they were all sold out. Bummer, I wanted to "flip" a few more.

Correct, she gets the D40, which is smaller and has a better GUI, will be much easier for her to adapt to.. Still very few bells & whistles, and still an awesome camera!

I get to keep the D50 beater.. and as a side bonus.. the AF 70-300 lens I bought which does NOT auto focus on my D5300.. works GREAT on the D50!

I need to do some outdoor light testing of the D40, but I know.. its going to do just fine!!

Im actually jealous, I wish my 5300 had sync at 1/500!!

I recently got her the Nikon D40 for Dummies... Shes been taking pictures with it so thats a positive sign! If I can get down
to her house to offload some of the pictures she took Ill post them up here.
