In body stabilization and Oss lens

Hi. I’m waiting for my first Sony to arrive, the A7R3. Have never even clicked a Sony body, much less held one.

If the body has built in stabilization, why do the lenses also have Ira. Apologies if this has been covered. Can both be used at same times. Does one cancel out the other? Is it that much better with both?

If it is an e-mount lens, then they do work together - if it is an adapted lens, a Canon 70-200 F2.8 II IS with an adapter, then you have to decide which IS you want to use.

Your biggest issue, by far, is going to be getting use to the smaller ergonomics. As a 5DSR and 1Dxii owner myself, as well as an A7Rii owner, after much experimenting, I determined that for me, it is far easier to operate the Sony if I default hold the camera with my left hand, by supporting the lens from underneath, so that my right hand is free to operate the various dials without also having to support the camera.I know the dials on the new camera are better, but there is something about the short height of the camera, for my hand, that doesn't allow the meat of the right hand to help support the camera / lens weight, and thus having to do so with 1/2 a hand, backs using the dials much harder - thus the left hand holding the weight of the camera works really well.

Enjoy (if you are coming from the Canon world, and you own the any of the 50/85/135 L Primes, or the 24-70 F2.8 II, you will love them on the Sony)

Thank you for the very complete and informative reply. When I sold my Canon gear, I didn’t know I was going to continue in the hobby and so sold all my glass.

I don’t have very large hands but did order the kit that comes when th the grip extension.
