Thought I would take a look at this just to see if it had anything to offer beyond PhotoNinja.

Anyone had trouble with this application and Windows 10 x64 .1703 release? I have installed it (and uninstalled it) twice with no luck. Starting it produces a WAIT cursor for 2 or 3 seconds and then nothing further. PC has 32GB of system memory and OS installed on an SSD.

May try the MacOS download and see what happens there.

I had absolutely no installation problems on my 64bit PC

However, I seem to remember a long thread on POTN about installation problems for a previous DxO product about a year ago.

I have no problems running the application on my Windows 10 64-bit system with the latest patches from Microsoft. The PC is a i7 quad core with 16GB of RAM and the DxO app is installed on a SSD.

Just sent email to DXO support, we will see what happens there. Did install it on an old Mac, slow but it does run.

Ejenner, you have to unpack all the different sliders by clicking on the title for each. That, like LR, drops down all the sliders section by section. They're not in the same order as LR, which is annoying, but what's in LR5 is in DXO, just in a different order. Give it a try.

So I am very new and have never even used LR yet so is this going to be as intuitive as LR? I know I should just install and mess around. Just not sure if I should just get the LR + PS combo paying monthly.

if you never used LR than you will have an easier time. not trying to compare the way its setup to lightroom. I have been using lightroom since shortly after it came out and it took me a little while to get used to how DxO is but I like it and its most likely going to be one of the apps I am using to replace lightroom.

I'm not a LR user, so not making comparisons there. Had trouble locating the curves adjustment.

I agree it is decent and nice for free and might well be all a good number of folks need.

I'm not sure what order you are referring to, but you can change the order of the the 'Essential Tools', 'Light' etc... tabs and move them from left to right with the dropdown. I guess within the tabs, you can't change the order.

Its free, intuitive and at the very least decent quality (I haven't done anything in-depth, it may be high quality). Always worth having, even if you do get LR+PS.

I think my 'basic' comment was taken out of context, and of course it depends on what you are comparing it to. I didn't see where you could make local adjustments, but it certainly has a good selection of tools.

Well, I am sitting on 1000's of photos that I need to go through and start doing post on at least a select few to get started. I will hold off on PS+LR/monthly and see what I can do with this. I have an issue thinking there is always something better so instead of just doing something to do it, I wait until I can afford the best and by that time, I'm not interested in whatever it was I was waiting for, lol! For instance, I just purchased a 6D to get into FF and have taken maybe 250 photos and now I really want the Sony A7riii because it's the best for what I want to do so I stopped taking photos with the 6D and started thinking of ways I can get the Sony. Nike put it best I guess. Thanks for the responses!

Local adjustments are available in DxO's newer application -- Photo Lab -- which replaces Optics Pro. The price is in line with what Lightroom used to cost before Adobe eliminated the perpetual license option and forced its customers to their subscription model.

I have started playing around with Optics Pro 11, and like what I am seeing for far. I do use local adjustments in Lightroom 6, though, so if I decide to use DxO as my primary RAW conversion tool I will probably end up springing for the new Photo Lab app. I will definitely not be "upgrading" from my perpetual LR6 to Adobe's Creative Cloud.

What really got me about the DXO sliders is that they seem to be repeated in several of the different sections. I like to just open all of the drop down options initially, so I can see whats available, so this repetition is kind of annoying. Also opening them all up doesn't seem to be automatically sticky. Again a little annoying after years of Lr/ACR being that way.

My other dislike of DXO has been that my two most used lenses don't have lens profiles available, and it is a real PITA that the program offers to go find a non existent profile every time I try to work on an image using one of those lenses.

That's the reason why I decided to keep ver. 9 (gifted earlier), which precedes that 'upgrade'.
