D50, sticky grip needs cleaning..

Bought my daughter a D50 for xmas to learn photography on, however the grip on the right side, the "rubber" section, is "sticky" and Id like to clean it to restore normal feel.

What agent do you suggest please? I dont want to use denatured alcohol, etc since it tends to react with the rubber adversely.

You can buy replacement rubber, it breaks down over time there ifs not much you can do to restore it.

Plastics are often coated with a polyurethane compound to give a “soft-touch” tactile feel and greater grip. As mentioned, this breaks down over time leaving it very sticky to the touch. It can be stripped away with a strong alkali baking soda/bicarbonate of soda solution leaving the base hard plastic, which is usually preferable to the stickiness.

Thank you John, Ill give that a try. I have baking soda on hand.. Ill remove the small section before attempting to clean.

I think the rubber is only 10 buck on etsy.

I found only the BACK piece guys, not the SIDE piece...

But Ill look on etsy anyway, haven't checked there yet..
