POTN G-series Speed Challenge #664 - Taken at night

Any shot that has clearly been taken at night. Preference given to creativity - maybe surprise us with something new rather than big city lights and buildings?

***************
RESULTS

First, thanks to the four entrants. I had hoped for more but in retrospect I should've known that not many people have a wide selection of night shots in their archives, and few people would want to go out into the cold November night to take a photo just for this challenge.

Some comments:

M6 – "Cruise Ship": an unusual and interesting photo because it's rare to see a cruise ship without passengers swarming all over it. I like the composition and the curves.

Trumper – "Dracula's church Whitby": a perfect venue but I think the composition of this particular shot, spooky though it is, is a bit too confused to make it the winner. But I do like it!

Maureen Souza – "On the Strip": nice sharp capture of the whole range from highlights to shadows. Incidentally, I read somewhere this week that "The Strip" made the top 10 list of the world's most overrated tourist traps;-)a

Carlo Y – "Looking for Dinner in a Sleepy Neighbourhood": a good straightforward shot – do the Christmas decorations mean you shot that this week?

And the winners are...

1 – Mark's cruise ship
2 – Maureen's Vegas
3 – Tied between Trumper and Carlo Y

There, I got everybody on the podium!

Congratulations to Mark and the others. All great images. Apologies Teekay but night photography is not one of my strong suits -? You did garner some excellent entries and had a tough time picking number one :-)

Wow, thanks, teekay. I figured it would go to Maureen's Vegas shot. Very cool shot, Maureen.

I'll get a new theme up shortly.

Congrats to Mark. Teekay, my photo was taken on the last day of a 2 week road trip through Utah which included a week in Yellowstone. This night in Vegas was the last stop before we headed home the next day.

Congrats Mark, Maureen, and Trumper. Thanks T' for the challenge. I think we needed a nudge for more night shots and low-light shooting.

I think that's rather true re: archives. G7, 9, 10 are not renown for their prowess in the dark. It's not too cold here in California, and night could be near ~5pm now. But I was not current with my responsibilities for streaming, searching, and downloading... so didn't get out.

'No', not Christmas fare. I think that was a so-so section of Fillmore St. SF, that tried to liven-up its atmosphere, raise the eyes above curb level.
(see... another handheld photo...)

Happy New Year everybody.
Nice shots taken at night !

Due to the tiny dimensions of our sensor, depth of field is generous so we can set aperture to f2 or approaching to remain at low ISO when taking handheld night pictures or pictures in very low available ambient light. The streets nearby our door are very colorful at night after rain, make a try next time the weather is wet. Regards,
