5dsr vs d810

which would you rather have shooting portrait work?

For natural light, the d810.

With lighting, well, doesn't matter much for portrait, whatever your needs are relative to print size maybe.

Never owned a Nikon, but bet I could get great portraits with both. But I own a 5DS and think it's worth noting that it captures far more detail than needed most of the time. So for portraits I often have it set on small or medium file size.

Honestly, I have so many nice lenses, I wouldn't think of switching. But if I was going to get another camera and comparing, I'd be pondering 5D Mk iv vs. the d810 and still thinking both would be fine.

But if you want crazy detail in a studio without paying for medium format, the 5DS or 5DSR will give you all you want. Maybe it depends on what lens collection you already own.
