Just got a Godox 850II for my 7DII and am finally going to start a foray into off-camera flash use.
Is the X1R - OOPS - I meant T (transmitter) a pretty safe bet given that if I get more flashes, will be more Godox 850's or similar?
At $50-60CAN for the remote, seems like a good bet?

Thanks!
I have a cheap continuous light set with umbrellas as a starter set, but would like to get more portable and more control of the light.

I have a photographic memory, just wish I'd remember to take the lens cap off more often!

Either the X1C (a bit clunky) or the new XPRO will be useful to control your flash(es). Also keep in mind that the flash itself can be used to control all other remote flashes that talk the R2 protocol (ie. has a mini X1C built into it for the lack of a better description).

To make for a fully versatile setup, you should also look into the AD200 and 600 flash units too.

I ended up finding a cheap (new) X1 transmitter and picked it up - seems to work well - but found a few dead spots mainly directly from underneath.

However, after playing with the set-up (I have some continuous lights and the Godox 850) - I realized that the continuous lights are okay for VERY close portraits or still-work, but won't do anything when shooting my kids volleyball team shots in a gym! The Godox speedlight is good - but I think I will want a more power (just like cars right?)

Someone local is selling a pretty decent pair of 600W strobe with stands etc with Pocketwizard Flex and mini transmitters for around $300CAN - should be more than enough power for gym shots and maybe even use them during games pointed at the ceiling? Plugging in is a pain, but I don't have the $$ for battery operated strobes!

Just when I sorted out my camera bags, speedlight, lenses and body (and heck even laptop), now the strobe bug has hit me - I think it will be worth it as I have a lot of opportunity to use it for both kids vball teams, as well as for MMA portraits at our local club... May even get a few bucks thrown my way. :)
