Here are some samples I have been playing with... Would love to see if you guys can see the difference or if you feel any are over sharp... I think I am going to have these 4 tiffs printed and see how they look on paper, since quality wise that is my ultimate goal... Workflow wise, I am going to try this: import to C1 (assign film simulations, edits) --> export to LR (do lens tagging, keywords, ratings, pano creation, focus stacking in PS, digital display/browse, web uploads)... If LR performance is better with a catalog of nothing but tiffs, I will be happy...

I kinda like how C1 sample looks, but like I said, I had to push the sharpening up further from where I was... I wasn't pushing it as far since I was comparing to LR and anything beyond a little in LR starts looking REALLY bad... Think part of my issue too is the scaling difference between the two programs. My C1 settings seam like a lot to me, but maybe they are not? Would love to hear your opinions... Thing is though, I wasn't seeing any difference till I pushed the sharpening to the levels here. Same with Iridient, I had not set it to high till I did this test... Now when I look at the base LR shot with no sharpening it looks a lot worse on my screen compared to either C1 or Iridient DNG on high. One thing that is consistent for me, I using Iridient with all sharpening disabled; then sharpened in LR, still looks as bad as a RAF sharpened in LR...

I will add some non crop versions once they finish uploading...

On my screen the last photo shows a tree trunk above the first boulder. A bit better then photo two that shows same trunk.

At these last sizes for POTN its hard to tell. Normally down sizing ( interpolating down) actually gives the appearance of sharper because you are throwing out pixels as you go down in size and things look tighter together as image gets smaller thus the impression of sharper ... Better to post 100%/200% crops like you did initially in order to see whats going on better. Now if all you only require images for display on the web no greater than say POTN 1500 pixels on the long side you will be fine whatever software you use ...Because you will be changing from the 100% native full size image down to only 1500 pixels you will be hard pressed to see much difference between any of them. And that goes for Facebook ,Instagram etc . On the other hand if you are cropping heavily for things like wildlife or enlarging images for printing on say a3 and above then it will probably be noticiable between the different software so then to gauge what software is best for you view the end result at 100% crop (200% if a retina screen) and then check for how each app handles sharpness, noise, white balance etc.

I have come to the conclusion that any sharpening Lightroom does to a Fuji image is bad looking; even tiffs brought into LR from CO don't look as good as the sharpening done in CO... These are zoomed 4:1...

Select is a TIFF imported from CO and sharpened in LR / Candidate is a TIFF sharpened in CO

Even sharpening in PS can't quite match CO, Select is sharpened in PS / Candidate is the TIFF from CO...

I actually came to this forum today to ask a question about Fuji RAW handling. When I used to use Canon 6D and import my images to Lightroom the default amount of sharpening would be 25, with Fujifilm files it's 40 - is there a reasoning behind the difference in sharpening amount?

You have that backwards I believe. Canon has been 40 for a long while.

Interestingly, my X-Pro2 files have been coming in at '25' but my new X-T2 files are coming in at '40'. Same sensor and processing engine, I wonder why?
