Would like some information from those who use reflectors for portrait photography. I'd highly appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks and hope all is well.

As a light modifier (like a reflector mounted with a strobe/speedlite), or the stand alone reflectors used to reflect natural light onto subjects (no lighting beyond that)?

Very best,

Very best,

Sry for the confusion. I'm meaning reflectors for natural light. Thanks!

The color of the reflector effects things, so getting one with gold/black/white, etc, is useful. Bigger is softer when closer. Reflecting natural light serves to fill shadows. You can also bounce a light off a reflector to make it a light source. But think of it as a mobile way to get fill light on someone when there's natural light to reflect, without needing a flash/strobe. Hard to do without an assistant or stand that holds it for you though.

Very best,

Reflectors are okay for fill but you are limited to the direction and intensity of the existing light. Expand your option to learning fill flash, you open so many more creative doors when you do.

I love reflectors with natural light. Just buy some beadboard or styrene foam and experiment. B&H sells a little fork that goes into the edge of the board so you can mount on a stand. Only really useful indoors though.
