My birding buddy and I finally got to make a field trip yesterday and, of the few birds we saw, one was a cooperative Northern Hawk Owl.

Really nice! A few years ago there was one hanging around in Waterbury VT very near my daughters house. I didn't get pictures anywhere near as nice as these are.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment; I appreciate it. Hawk Owls are one of my favorite of the family. It's been quite a number of years since they've been around in any number and I don't know yet how this winter will pan out. I'm always surprised how relatively small they are. As for the Muppet feet, I always think of them as flying cats.

Thank you kindly for commenting. They're one of my favorite species too. They can be hard to find, but it depends on the year. I drove this same loop a number of years back and we found six in one day. They haven't been that numerous since though.

Nicely done Al, I'm realizing my never-seen list is much longer than my have-seen list.
