What camera and what kind of solvent? The eye piece (external link) is a pretty beefy hunk of plastic.

The solvent was denatured ethanol 90% that I got from a pharmacist friend of mine. The camera was an old Canon FTb. The lens didn't fall outside of the camera but into the pentaprism housing. Fortunately I was able to shake the camera with it pointed toward the sky and get the lens to fall back into it's correct position and glued it back in place. I suppose 70% isopropyl would be okay but I still wouldn't try it.

I'll have to be more careful then as I clean mine with lens cleaner which is isopropyl all the time. (well, couple of time per year at least.)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I have been known to take a cotton T shirt and swirl it around. Probably not the recommended method, but it works.
