Nice shots and nice action.

I came to the sports thread to see what lens other folks are using for basketball. The local high school upgraded their lights to LEDs this year and it's TONS better, but the best lens I have for basketball is still my 70-200 f/2.8L IS on a 5D3 body. I tried my 16-35 f/2.8L, but it just didn't seem to want to focus right at all. I'm going to try my 24-105 f/4L IS the next time I go to a game.

Interesting to see your shutter speed, too, as I would have thought 1/1000 would have resulted in more motion blur than I see in your shots. I was shooting 1/1600, f/3.2 & ISO 10000 at a game yesterday.

I'm quite comfortable at 1/800-sec for high school boys basketball. Sure, I'd prefer more, but the shots are plenty crisp and I don't want to raise ISO any more than I have to. Congrats on the LEDs. I wish my local high schools had them.

Well done Phil! Your stuff under the basket is nice, that's the one spot on the court I often struggle with.

I also agree with Pat that 1/800 is plenty for HS hoops and typically about as good as you can get without really jacking ISO up which presents a whole different set of problems.
